"Cabinets". LOVE this idea so I thought I would share. I've had this photo for years and just dug it out so I don't have a source. Share if you know please!

How Cool is This?! [interior Design]
I'm not one for fancy designer home decor items. Missoni for Target is as crazy as I get but I came across these interesting bowls. Maybe it's the architecture behind them that attracts me. The "before" and "after" of it all. The bling factor? I dunno. I didn't look hard for a price because I probably don't want to know but how cool is this?!

Style. [PROPS]
The weather is getting cold around here and it's making outdoor sessions a little tougher with kids. Here are some great layering ideas for little girls. Can you image these outfits with the bright fall colors in the background? Not one to be in the habit of quoting Rachel Zoe but "I die".

Run Don't Walk! [interior Design]
So the Crate & Barrel catalog arrived and I couldn't help but notice that the front cover has this white chair on it. This chair is in the same vein as the chairs I recently purchased from Ikea for my dining room. The main difference is the price!

The Norvald Ikea chair

I have since learned that the steal price I got them for ($30) was a weekly promotion and is over now but still -50 bucks?! You can't beat that. RUN don't walk to Ikea before they are gone!

License and Registration Please [PROPS]
I posted this wall of license plates idea a little bit ago and while stalking my wedding photographer (she's so talented!) Heather Saunders the other day I saw this:

The Look for Le$$ [interior Design]
I mentioned a chair I would have liked to use in my dining room in the last post. The issue is that these chairs from Design Within Reach are way too expensive - $1,177.25 - $2,346.00!!:
Maybe not azzzzzzzz chromy and amazing but MUCH more reasonably priced. I'm still happy with my dirt cheap Ikea chairs. They will hold me over until the year 2041 when I can actually do the kitchen/dining room remodel and go crazy in there. The bathroom above the dining room is still leaking so until that is fixed I can't worry about the chandelier (much less centering it!!).
but here is the look for less from Home Decorators.com - only $119!!:

Dining Room Update [interior Design]
Can you tell the difference between these two photos?
Photo 1
Photo 2
If you said that the photographer was more amazing on photo 1 you would be correct. If you said the chairs you would also be correct! I couldn't pass these up. They were on sale at Ikea for $30 each. Yes! Originally about $69 but they are discontinuing them so I grabbed six. Now you ask - isn't that the patio table? Yes, yes it is. It's winter and it's back in the house all warm and cozy. It may or may not be permanent but to have more functional chairs (the arms on the patio set are bulky and hard to maneuver) that are more fitting to the room makes momma happy. I think I can find a table if need be and will continue to scour craigslist. Dream chairs? No. The top of my list would be these but the design out of reach price prevents me from purchasing them. The knock-offs are out of my range as well.
Top of my list chair with a no bueno price:
P.S. the non-centered chandelier is making my nuts. When I get a chandelier I really like instead of the DIY - formerly brass one that's in there now I plan to center it. Can't wait to patch drywall. Then prime. Then repaint a ceiling. Ugh. Lots of work in progress.

The Little Man's Room [interior Design]
Kids' rooms are some of the most fun to design. Ideas, concepts, themes, and color options are endless. My husband had to let me do our son's room because in a couple years I'm sure Trey will want a football light switch or some giant sports figure on the wall. Not that there's anything wrong with that - it's just that I'll be nudged out of the "lead designer" role and have one less room to play in. So I went gender neutral and no-so-babyish crossing my fingers that it will take longer for him to get sick of it and call in his dad for sporting design help. I incorporated his books and some globes we had with a color palette of browns and greys. Here's Trey on an oak dresser I refinished (which doubles as the changing station):

The light is from Ikea and the bird mobile above the chair? I made that. I found the plastic wall mountable birds at Target and sprayed them white. Drilled holes in them, tied fishing line and hung them to wire. I also "layered" the birds by putting some up on the walls behind the mobile and scattered some across the room just above the changing table.
The maps are from old National Geographic magazines in my parents' basement. They are close ups of Italy and South America were Trey's people are from ;)
I painted a lime green giraffe for a pop of color. It's hard to tell in the photos but this wall is much darker than the other 3 walls. It's a French Vanilla cappuccino color. Yum. Another detail I added is not noticeable in photos but the closet doors are matte paint with high gloss vertical stripes...I need a real camera.
This is my little man on his glider. I loved the modern lines and it wasn't easy to find but I got it from here. My husband is not a big fan of it because the back isn't high enough for him. Are the ugly rockers/gliders more comfortable? Yes but I think this is pretty comfortable AND it looks good. Form and an acceptable amount of function for me.

UPDATE: I now have a real camera so you will have to blame the lack of photography skills for these photos. This angle gives a better view of the mobile and wall mounted birds. I also wanted to share the striped closets and a new friend.

New PROP!
It's a vintage Pedigree buggy and/or stroller!! It was made in England by the Lines Bros. possibly in the early 1960's (?). It was a status symbol in it's day, now it's just great to look at and an AWESOME prop! It has elliptically shaped carriage steel metal side panels brown and white. It's large - the bed measures 34x14x9" and the top can fold down.
