Random Stuff

I had a good friend Alison in town who I haven't seen in a while. It was soooo nice to somewhat catch up with her (we were both chasing our children around and trying to hold a conversation at the same time). Alison was in my wedding and can be seen here under the arrow:

Naturally her daugher is as gorgeous as her. Look at that hair!

So of course I had to have her model a crown.

Great job Charlie! I owe you some ice cream.

Lipstick on the Laundry Pig [interior Design]

I've managed to put more lipstick on the house. The laundry room is not cute. The trim and walls are painted almond, the tile is from '81, the cabinets are old, the doors to the closet come off if you look at them wrong. If I didn't have a mile long list for this house (and the laundry room is the least of our worries) here is what the "to do" list in there would look like:

-new floor tile
-new closet configuration
-new cabinets
-new sink/counter
-subway tiles up the wall and wrapping the sink
-new paint
-well thought out drying rack
-sheer for window
-new ceiling light
-crown molding to hide the gas line
-new outlet covers

HOWEVER this is the more realistic/already in progress lipstick list:

-paint existing cabinets
-new pulls
-drying rack
-sheer for window
-new ceiling light
-new crown molding to hide the gas line
-new outlet covers
-maybe just MAYBE subway tiles around the sink

As you can see I've accomplished a few things on the list.

And yes you only get the cabinet shot because this room is a hot mess on top of needing a gut job. So the photos don't make it seem like a big deal but it feels much different in there. Here is the link to the drying rack. I had originally gone in for this one since it folds down and wouldn't protrude into the window all the time but it's discontinued!! Sigh. The shelf behind the dryer is a filler. The dryer has to be pulled out for the fat vent. I'll be needing a longer shelf sooner than later but for now this puts an old one to use.

To be continued...

Why doesn't Room Crashers (or Bath Crashers or Yard Crashers) come to my house?!? They could have a field day around here!! HGTV...are you there? Can you hear me? I've got sooo much for you to play with.

DIY Designer Book Holder [interior Design]

I really liked this the second I saw it at anthropologie.com and it had DIY written all over it. ESPECIALLY after I saw the price tag.

It's $2,000. Yes - two g's. I'm sure the books justify the price (maybe) but let's ditch the books Anthro and make it possible to get in a regular gal's home. Well I waited and it hasn't happened yet so DIY it is! Luckily someone else took the time to map out the plan. Check it out here on whollykao.com.

Whhooaah-oh Domino [interior Design]

Many of us have been anticipating the reappearance of the design magazine Domino. Well a special "Quick Fixes" edition is on the shelves as of yesterday. I am lovingly staring at it now. It's like getting ice cream on the first nice day of spring - so refreshing! If you are not familiar with the magazine (they stopped publishing it in 2009) this edition will give you an idea. A news release described Quick Fixes as "Domino's best home decorating stories, focusing on easy, often inexpensive changes that make a big difference -- from quick spruce-ups of dowdy furniture to more involved DIY projects like painting stairs or reorganizing a home office." So lindO!

While flipping through I noticed this EXACT stool that my dad found for me the other day. Is this a common piece?? They painted it orange but I was thinking hot pink or yellow, colors that happen to be laying around my house.

What's your vote?

Stencil Your Walls [interior Design]

A friend is redoing her bedroom and is contemplating stenciling her walls. If you are up for some DIY and in need of a cheap easy wall makeover try a stencil! They are reusable and MUCH easier than putting up (then eventually taking down after the fad passes) wallpaper - trust me. Check out these stencils she found at the Etsy shop OliveLeafStencils. They've got some goooooood ones!

With some DIY time your space can be GORG!! How do you feel about stencils?
